Introduction
Wondering about the
everlasting Syrian war ? Who are the ISIS? The ISIS are a group
of terrorists who terrorized Syria, since 2011.
Syria, is located in the continent of
Asia, it covers 183,630 sq kilometers of land. It is the 89th
largest country in the world.
The Syrian president Basher-Al-Assad
did not appreciate people who disagreed with him, he started torturing and
killing people who disagreed with him. The three forces were at work against
Arab Nationalism. British interest in keeping eastern Mesopotamia, under its
control in order to counter Russians influence and protect British oil
interests. The Jewish interest in Palestine, and France’s determination to
remain in a power in the East.

About
Syria
Present – Day Syria is only a small
portion of the ancient geographical. Syrian
land –mass, a region situated at the eastern end of the meridian sea.
Greater Syria as historians and political scientists refer to this area, is a
region connecting three continents, simultaneously cursed and blessed as a
crossroads for commerce and a battleground for the political destinies of
dynasties and empires. Exploited politically, greater Syria also benefited
immeasurably from the cultural diversity of the people who came to claim parts
or a whole of it and who remained to contribute to the remarkable, spirited and
intelligent flowering that characterized Greater Syria’s cultures in the
medieval periods. Through history,
Greater Syria has been the focal point of a continuous dialectic, both
intellectual and bellicose, between the middle
east and the west.
Syria endured decades of strife and
turmoil as competing faction, fought over control of the countries, government
following Independence in 1946.
The period of Independence, the period
between the outbreak of World War 1 in 1914 and the granting of France’s
mandate over. Syria by the League of Nations 1922 was marked by a complicated
sequence of events during which Syrians achieved a brief period of independence
(1909 – 1920). However, three forces were at work against Arab Nationalism:
Britain’s interesting in keeping eastern Mesopotamia under its control in order
to countries Russian influence and to protect British oil interest. The Jewish
interest in Palestine, and France’s determination to remain a power in the
east. Ultimately, Syria and Lebanon was placed under French influence and
transportation and Iraq, under British Mandate. The termination of Syria’s
brief experience with Independence left a lasting bitterness against the west
and a deep-seated determination to reunite the Arabs in one state. This quest
was the primary basis for a modern Arab Nationalism.
Where is Syria located?
Syria is located in the Asia
Continent. Syrian Arab Republic covers 183,630 sq kilometers of land making it
the 89th largest nation in the world with a total area of 185,180 sq
kilometers.
Syria became an independent state in
1946 after gaining its sovereignty from Turkey. The population of Syria is
22,530,746 in (2012) and the nation has a density of 123 people per sq
kilometers.
Who are the ISIS?
The ISIS is the Islamic state in Iraq
and Syria. ISIL is Islamic state in Iraq and the Zeriant. They are the Jihadist
militant group which emerged from radical Sunni jihadist in Iraq who fought
under the banner “AL-Qaeda” in Iraq.
They were founded in 2004 and grew
from “al-Qaeda” linked group, but it is thought the two groups have since
distanced themselves from each other.
In april 2010, present ISIS leader
Abu-Baker al-Baghdadi became the new head of the group. He is now one of the
world’s most notorious men.
The US state department has a $10M
bounty on his head.
Only the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman
al-Zawahiri, has a larger reward offers for his capture or death $ 25M.
How did this all start?
In 2011, Syria caught Arab spring bug
happening across mid-east, Anti-government protest broke out. Syrian president
Basher al-Assad did not appreciate these and responded with a massive
crackdown, torturing and killing those who disagreed with him. This prompted
protesters to form groups and eventually arm themselves against him. Soon, this
was a full blown civil war, with at least a thousand rebel groups with
different agendas,
For a while there were rumors of both
sides using chemical weapons. Then, in August 2013, graphic images surfaced
that appeared to show a massive chemical weapon attack on the civilians in
Syria. The US and friends freaked out and blamed Assad, Assad blamed the
rebels. For a second it looked like the US war on the brink of military intervention
in Syria. Until the UN and Assad cut a deal, and he turned over his chemical
weapons to be destroyed. Talk of intervention called off, at least for a little
while.
The Syrian civil war is a conflict
between the its long-serving government and those seeking to boot it out of
office, The Assad family has held power in Syria since 1971. First, it was Hafez-al-Assad, then
Basher-al-Assad.
Unlike many regime leaders in the
middle east. They are Alawities a relatively obscure branch of Islam, which
is not particularly hard line. Islamists, as happened in other countries which
participated in the Arab Spring Uprisings.
But people are still angry at their
government. As Rodger Shanahan points out what, they are angry about is the
failure of long promised economic and political reforms.
