CONTROVERSIES WHICH HAVE HAPPENED
IPL has been more of controversies and less cricket so far. Ever since its inception in 2008, there has been abundance of hullabaloo. Here are the top 5 IPL controversies:

1)      SPOT FIXING CONTROVERSY
In the year 2014, Delhi Police caught three Indian players – Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, and Ankeet Chavan were caught spot fixing and were jailed subsequently. Investigations from Mumbai Police then lead to Gurunath Meiyappan’s arrest. Meiyappan is the son-in-law and an alleged owner of CSK.
2)      LALIT MODI SACKED AS IPL CHAIRMAN
Former IPL chairman and founder of this cash rich tournament – Lalit Modi was sacked in 2010 after allegations about fraud and mismanagement of funds came to the light. The IPL founder lives in London at present.

3)      SREESANTH-HARBHAJAN SLAP GATE
There was this infamous slap-gate involving Sreesanth and Harbhajan Singh in the very first season of IPL in 2008.
This incident, shown world over, does not only put IPL in dock but also spirit of game.
4)      UTHAPPA ALLEGEDLY HOLDS YOUNG KHAN’S COLLAR
KKR opening batsman Robin Uthappa allegedly held 17 year old Sarfaraz Khan’s by the collar at Eden Gardens. This incident happened behind the sight screen and RCB’s ABD and Ashok Dinda rushed to the rescue of Sarfaraz.

5)      SHAHRUKH KHAN BANNED FROM WANKHADE STADIUM
It is now a well-known fact that controversy and Shah Rukh Khan go hand in hand. The 2012 incident involved a brawl with security personnel at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It is alleged that he hurled abuse at security staff.
As a result, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) banned Shah Rukh from entering the premises of stadium for next five years. The ban on actor still holds in spite of various eminent political figures appealing to lift ban.

HOW IS BCCI DEALING WITH CONTROVERSIES

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found itself in the middle of many conflicts with various cricket boards around the world as a result of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The main point of contention was that signed players should always be available to their country for international tours, even if it overlaps with the IPL season. To address this, the BCCI officially requested that the International Cricket Council (ICC) to institute a time period in the International Future Tours Program, solely for the IPL season. This request was not granted at a subsequent meeting held by the ICC
BCCI is one of the only boards of cricket in the world which has absolutely zero tolerance when it comes to dealing with corruption charges or controversies and also the only board which never backtracks from their decision.

WHY SHOULD IPL CONTROVERSIES BE STOPPED?
I feel that we as a nation can put an end to all the controversies happening in IPL around us.
If the controversies continue, then the youngsters will have a bad picture of the sport and their future because you never know, one day they also could be involved and banned for life.
The cricketers who are at their peak of their career should set a good example for their successors.
Let’s start thinking positively and start playing fair cricket.
