GIRLS SHOULD JOIN THE ARMED FORCES – Ashreya Goyal 6D

GIRLS SHOULD JOIN THE ARMED FORCES – Ashreya Goyal 6D

Introduction:
As I look back 5 years ago, when I was six, I start to remember my carefree life as a small girl. I have always been told that nothing is impossible to achieve in life and there is no greater role than to serve our great country. As I grow, I realize that being a girl is an amazing experience and “Impossible” is just a weak word in my dictionary.
In today’s world, girls are breaking tradition and entering into traditional male dominated areas. Words such as cameraman and chairman, have been changed into cameraperson and chairperson, due to the rising power of women.
The Indian Armed Forces, which for long was considered a male dominated area, has confident young women and they are placed in every single roll. Therefore , I believe that girls are strong and should join the armed forces.
My first point that supports my statement is Defence Forces offer equal pay and do not discriminate:
In the Indian Armed Forces, everyone is given equal opportunities to succeed. The promotions structure is very clean and everyone has a chance to rise based on their talent and hard work. It gives a very good platform to girls to have fair treatment and prove their worth and make the country proud of their strength.         My worthy opponent might state that the defence forces still have discrimination and don not allow girls on dangerous missions. A lot of what is said is lip service and girls do not get equal opportunities. Thus they may not be able to perform 100% and rise well in the forces.       While I agree that girls are not allowed on dangerous missions, I believe that the defence forces are changing rapidly with time and soon it would be a reality for girls to go on such missions too. In fact, girls in the Border Security Force are fighting Pakistani Rangers on the Kashmir borders and giving them a run for their money. Opportunities are rising and Indian Defence Forces are the most honest and committed force in the world. So, I would say that girls are being given chances, which will increase as time goes by.
My second point is that Defence Forces and Services need a softer side:
The work of Defence Forces is tough and it needs a lot of dedication to stay on the path of service to the nation. But, we also need a soft side that cares for people, which girls can provide by their strong, but compassionate outlook of forces. Girls can make a huge difference to the medical service wing.           My worthy opponent might state that the Defence Forces do not need a softer side as they are not defending the country to make friends. They are supposed to be aggressive and hand in their approach to tackle the enemy firmly. Having a softer side will make them weak against our enemies.
While I agree that the forces need to be tough ,don’t you think that we also have so many humanitarian missions all over the world that our defence forces take part in ,like Africa ,Indian forces are with the national Nations forces ,maintaining peace and taking care of the local people who have been affected by war ,by providing them with medical assistance. Even in Kashmir ,our forces are working with the locals ,who are building schools ,hospitals and care centers. Thus ,our forces don’t only fight wars ,they also need to help people with their compassion.

My final point that supports my statement is that girls are very strong:
Today ,girls in our country have achieved so much in almost all fields and are physically and mentally stronger than before. The training in the Armed Forces will make the girls even stronger and we can play a very important role in defending our country. Girls have achieved so much today ,and they have the ability to handle themselves and protect our country with their strength along side with men. For example ,girl soldiers in our border security force today are fighting the Pakistani Rangers on the Kashmir border and are giving them a run for their lives
Conclusion:
I firmly believe that girls should join the Armed Forces. Remember that the Armed Forces are among the few places that give equal opportunities to everyone to lead and serve in a positive and strong environment.
Where in the world would you get a chance as a 22 year female captain to lead hundreds of men into battle, where they trust you with their lives because you are their captain?
What better an opportunity and cause can there be than to serve our great country ,defend it against its enemies and at the same time help build a strong nation by working shoulder to shoulder with some of the most strongest ,most disciplined men in the world. So, come along and think beyond the regular corporate world and stake your claim to a world of adventure and service our Armed Forces.
